Our PBA Vice President/CCO & Park Police Sergeants Director Manuel Vilar attended a monthly meeting of the Coastal Shields in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week with retired PBANYS board member Tom Smith UP, Mike Koupash PP, Raul Kaul UP and Dan Webb UP.
On April 8, 2016, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced the awards for distinguished actions of dozens of its service members and other law enforcement officials from across the state.
DEC’s Division of Law Enforcement Police Awards are presented every three years and recognize the courageous acts and distinguished service of Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) and several State Troopers, Sheriff’s Deputies, Assistant District Attorneys and elected officials who helped to protect the environment and uphold Environmental Conservation Law.
On April 2nd, 35 Recruits graduated from the NYS Park Police Academy. PBA Chaplin Father Andrew Cadieux gave the Benediction and offered words of encouragement to the new Park Police Recruits.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Division of Forest Protection bestowed the awards at a ceremony in Albany on Jan. 12, 2015, in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinguished service of past and present Forest Rangers.

Law Enforcement’s Special Olympic Torch Run
This year there were two runs. One from Niagara Falls State Park to Niagara University and the second from Niagara University to the village of Lewiston. Click here for the Buffalo News story.
Participating were several NYS Park Police Officers as well as New York State University Police Officers.
Just some of the other agencies involved were the Border Patrol, Niagara Falls Police Department, Niagara County Sheriff Department, North Tonwanda Police Department, the New York State Police and the Lewiston Police Department and many more.
DEC environmental conservation officers and other dignitaries gathered at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hamilton Wednesday, April 9, 2014 to pay homage to Samuel S. Taylor, the first environmental conservation officer killed in the line of duty in New York State 100 years ago.
We were pleased to see a strong showing of PBA members who took the time to honor Trooper David Cunniff, as well, so many other officers from around the state and across the country.

Our members from the New York State University Police, the New York State Environmental Conservation Police, the New York State Park Police, and the New York State Forest Rangers continue to work long hours assisting the victims of Hurrican Sandy and taking steps to ensure everyone continues to be safe.
